Can price-competitive electronic security products be manufactured in Australia?
At Ness we took on this challenge. Our approach was to invest heavily in new technology, employ highly trained staff and set them the goal of driving costs down by maximising process efficiency and yield.
The result is a world-class manufacturing facility accredited to International Standard ISO9001:2000. Ness' tightly controlled high yield processes ensure consistent quality and eliminate waste. The benefits are passed on to our customers.

The circuit board loading process is founded on Surface Mount Technology (SMT). For precision and flexibility Ness chose Yamaha equipment for its SMT lines. These precision machines are incredibly accurate. They employ vision and laser placement technology and are capable of placing components with a pitch as fine as 0.4mm at a rate of many thousands of components per hour, repetitively and reliably.
Some through-hole components are still used and to avoid the traditional pitfalls of the accompanying wave soldering stage, we invested in the latest technology Soltec Nitrogen Wave Soldering Machine, which provides an inert, oxygen-free environment in this most critical process.
In another first Ness formulated a unique test strategy of the future. Utilising a Takaya Flying Probe Tester, the flexibility of the system has reduced Ness' production engineering cycle by some two months. To date it is the only "In Line" probe tester operational in Australia and perhaps the world.
Every manufactured product passes through this equipment; minimising test time and maximising test coverage. This combination makes a vital contribution towards achievement of our goal, attaining the highest possible efficiency and yields.
Whilst the machinery employed by Ness is critical, the process controls are no less important. Statistical analysis is the cornerstone of our control and ISO9001 accreditation is the blueprint. Our quality system ensures that the checks and balances, which occur at every stage, are strictly adhered to. Ness customers enjoy the benefits of this process, which provides them with a competitive advantage through the guaranteed quality and reliability of each and every product they purchase.
Ness Security Products is interested in forming partnerships with OEM customers who are looking for quality manufactured products at world competitive prices. If you would like to join the growing list of OEM partners, please contact us.
QUALITY SYSTEM
Ness Security Products became ISO9001 accredited in 1995. To maintain certification, our Quality System is audited by our accreditation body QAS with a full system audit every three years and compliance audits two times per year.
For too many companies, accreditation is a key element in their marketing strategy rather than a tool for building a business for continual growth. However, the Managing Director and Ness' management and staff have adopted the quality system in all aspects of our business. It was designed around how we do business, and has enabled us to continually improve our efficiencies in all areas of our business reflecting significant cost savings and ultimately superior customer satisfaction.
We at Ness take great pride in our Quality System and welcome external audits to provide us with opportunities for improvement. |
