In September of 2002, Jay Sankey and Richard Sanders began video corresponding, sending rough magic ideas and handlings back and forth between Toronto and Montreal. During the next year and a half they included many of the routines in their professional performances while continuing to refine the handlings and swap ideas. Then in January of 2004 Richard and Jay met in Montreal for a series of intense marathon sessions during which they stopped only to grab a shower, some pizza, and buy more decks of cards. During this same 72-hour period they taped the material that makes up this very special double volume DVD.

A card is selected, signed, then mixed back into the deck.

Standing on one side of the window with the spectator, you ask them to push the cards up against the glass and mix them around in a jumble, holding them against the glass.

With the spectator holding the cards on the glass, you walk around to the other side.



You pause. You know that the effort you put into showmanship here is going to pay off in a few moments. Confidence is like blood running through your veins.

You tap on the cold, hard glass to emphasize the impossible nature of what is going to take place. You lower your hands and seemingly begin to extract one card-- slowly-- from the scatter that the spectator is pressing against on the other side.

To the spectators, it actually looks as if the card is sticking half way out of the glass... it takes genuine effort to pull it through. You can even take a few steps back.



There is a reason we call it Surgical Card Through Window. It looks like slow surgery on a plain slab of glass.

The doctor is in.

The card is SLOWLY turned over-- it is in fact their signed, selected card on the other side of the window.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. Because when you turn that card over you are going to be watching one.

The effects taught on the DVD are not new or original. However, the methods and psychology I teach differ from many out there. I focus entirely on the effect....on the MAGIC, and not on the moves. The routines appear seamless, and to the spectator it is as if you have done nothing, and yet magic occurred right there in their own hands.

The psychology is meant to disarm the spectator and create peak moments of misdirection, where you perform the sleights with ease and invisibility. It also emphasizes the effect, and not the technique. Instead of your spectators saying "ohhh he has really quick hands", they will have wide eyes, and gaspingly state "BUT he never touched my hands, the cards CHANGED in my own hands while I was holding them!" etc. The difference is subtle, but that difference is what creates the truly magical moments for your audience.
